How to Become a Magistrate/Administrator in Cameroon (ENAM)

 Becoming a judge, an administrator, court registrar, or magistrate in Cameroon is a job many nationals are interested in.



The National School for Administration and Magistracy (ENAM) is the sole entity or institution for the training of  Administrators and Magistrates in the country.

Every school year begins with a solemn occasion to welcome newly admitted students as future state managers.

Who can enroll in ENAM and Become a Magistrate, Court Registrar, Customs Officer, or Administrator in Cameroon?



The school trains Cameroonians aged between eighteen (18) and thirty-two (32) years.

Trainees must be holders of at least the GCE Advanced Level.

Students from member countries of the CEMAC (Economic and Monetary Community of Central African States) can also enroll.

How to Become a Magistrate/Administrator in Cameroon (ENAM)?

To become a magistrate or an administrator in Cameroon, do the following:

  1. Register or enroll for ENAM Concours, either Cycle A reserved for holders of a first Degree or Cycle B for those with the GCE Advanced Level or their equivalent.
  2. You must write and pass the competitive exam (ENAM Concours) 
  3. Undergo training in the National School for Administration and Magistracy in Yaounde, Cameroon.
  4. After successful completion, you can now be called a magistrate or an administrator.

Note

  • Magistracy is general for those with a Maitrise, Master’s 1 in Law, Economics, or any related fields.
  • The Common Law section admits students who study essentially in English.

How to Register and Study in ENAM Cameroon?

Entrance into ENAM is by competitive entrance exam.

The ENAM Concour launches annually in May.

The competitive entrance exam has two phases; the written and oral phases, reserved for those who succeed in the written phase.

How is the training in ENAM After the Concours or Competitive Exam?

Complete Training at ENAM takes two (2) years and involves two key stages: 

  1. The first phase is military initiation training for 45 days.
  2. The second phase is academic training at the campus in Yaounde.

Each trainee takes part in a professional internship that may run for six to twelve months before graduation and posting to their respective duty stations.

Administrative and Financial Division trains in Labour Administration, General Administration, Social Affairs Administration, Taxation, Customs Officers, and Treasury.

Magistracy and Court Registry Division trains magistrates, court registry Administrators, and Court Registrars.
