The Cameroon Medical Council (CMC or ONMC) met in an extraordinary session on Friday, May 15, 2020, in Yaoundé to assess the situation of the Cameroonian doctor in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The council noted with regret the acts of verbal and physical violence to which the doctors and nursing staff are victims in the fight against covid-19. It also deplored the laxity of the authorities vis-a-vis this situation.
Clearly, the CMC expects the authorities to put law enforcement forces at their disposal to protect them during the exercise of their profession. Also, the council notes that the doctors and the nursing staff are "insufficiently protected "and recommends that "the State ensures the protection of all without distinction by ensuring the provision of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and other safety devices."
Doctors note an insufficient commitment from the public sector in the fight against the pandemic and also recommend that the private sector be involved, through the establishment of a public-private partnership, with support allowing the active participation of the private sector in the national response plan.
